What Is Root Canal Therapy?
Root canal therapy is a common dental treatment used to save a tooth when the soft inner tissue, known as the pulp, becomes infected or inflamed due to decay, injury, or cracks. At Nimmich Endodontics, Dr. Michael Nimmich and Dr. Bruno provide root canal care to remove the damaged pulp, eliminate bacteria, and protect the tooth from further harm. This treatment not only relieves pain and stops infection from spreading, but also allows patients to keep their natural tooth, preserving both function and appearance for years to come. To learn more about this treatment, or if you're suffering from tooth pain, contact us in Sumter, SC to schedule a consultation and learn if a root canal is needed.
How Is A Root Canal Performed?
During a root canal, the tooth is first numbed to ensure you remain comfortable, and a small opening is made to access the infected or damaged pulp inside. The pulp is carefully removed, and the inside of the tooth is cleaned, disinfected, and shaped to eliminate bacteria and prevent reinfection. The cleaned space is then filled with a special sealing material, and the opening is closed with a temporary or permanent restoration. Depending on the tooth’s location and complexity, the procedure typically takes about 60 – 90 minutes and allows the tooth to heal while preserving its natural structure and function.
What Are the Benefits of Root Canal Therapy?
Root canal therapy offers numerous benefits for relieving pain, stopping infection, and preserving your natural tooth. Benefits can include:
- Eliminates infection and prevents it from spreading to other teeth or tissues
- Relieves pain and discomfort caused by inflamed or damaged pulp
- Saves your natural tooth, avoiding the need for extraction and replacement
- Maintains normal chewing function and bite alignment
- Preserves the natural look and feel of your smile
- Supports long-term oral health and overall well-being
Root Canal Therapy Reviews
I was nervous to have a root canal done but Dr. Nimmich and his team were amazing. They explained the process really well and kept me updated throughout the process. Highly recommend to anyone that needs endodontic work done!
I wouldn't say root canals are high on my list of things to have done, but Dr. Nimmich and his team made it as pleasant as possible. Top notch service.
Never has a root canal been such an enjoyable experience. The staff was wonderful and very attentive. Dr. Walkowiak has an outstanding bedside manner and awesome skillset. It was an overall great experience despite me being in pain when I entered. To top it off Dr. Walkowiak called me that evening just to check in on me. I highly recommend them!
Great Dentist office. Dr. Bruno did a root canal. He did a great job. Took his time to explain my dental xrays how the root canal procedure would be done. The staff made me feel very comfortable. Greatly recommend Nimmich Endodontics . Thank you Dr. Bruno...
Dr. Bruno and Ashton were phenomenal. From my first appointment, Dr. Bruno already knew what needed to be done fix a root canal I had done 12 years prior at a separate endodontist and explained my options about proceeding very clearly. They were very knowledgeable, polite and great personalities to be surrounded by.During my procedure Ashton and Dr. Bruno made sure I was comfortable the entire time and kept me informed throughout the whole procedure. I went in with no pain and left the same way. All the way from the front desk to the operatory, I felt valued and respected as a patient.I cannot recommend Dr. Bruno, Ashton, and this practice enough.5/5
